“A Battle For Free Speech,” which will be narrated by veteran actor James Belushi, will show what happened since the government took control of the Teamsters union 25 years ago and how 1.4 union members have lost their right of free speech and due process. The film tells the story of Chicago Teamster leader Bill Hogan who won wide respect for helping bring film productions and trade shows to Chicago, but found himself expelled for life on trumped up charges after he criticized abuses by the agency entrusted by the Justice Department to control the union. That was just the beginning of Bill Hogan’s ordeal and the film traces how his friends and family were also targeted after he showed the courage to speak out against an injustice that continues to this day.
In addition to Belushi, the film production crew includes prize winning cinematographer Dana Kupper and Zak Piper who worked recently on "Life Itself" the acclaimed documentary about the late film critic Roger Ebert. George Bogdanich, a journalist and documentary filmmaker, is producer/director of "A Battle for Free Speech." Members of the production crew will be on hand at the fundraiser.
